Breaking Down All 6 Exciting Muay Thai Matchups At ONE Fight Night 24 On August 2
Although there is something for every type of combat sports fan at ONE Fight Night 24: Brooks vs. Balart on Prime Video, Muay Thai enthusiasts will be particularly eager for the action to get underway.
“The art of eight limbs” makes up half the card, with six battles set to ignite the U.S. primetime audience on Friday, August 2.
Those matchups feature some of the most exciting contenders on the roster who have a penchant for fiery battles and memorable knockouts.
Here, we preview all six Muay Thai showdowns – and explain why they could offer up some of the standout moments at Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.
Felipe Lobo vs. Nabil Anane
Two-time ONE Bantamweight Muay Thai World Title challenger Felipe “Demolition Man” Lobo will put his #3 ranking on the line against surging phenom Nabil Anane in a guaranteed barnburner.
Lobo is coming off a sensational World Title battle with Jonathan Haggerty, in which he dropped the defending king before losing in the third round of a back-and-forth tussle.
Meanwhile, the 20-year-old Anane entered ONE with a loss to reigning ONE Flyweight Kickboxing World Champion Superlek Kiatmoo9, but he’s rebounded with a trio of impressive victories, including knockouts of decorated World Champions Kulabdam Sor Jor Piek Uthai and Muangthai PK Saenchai.
Given the recent performances from both men, the result should have big implications for the division’s World Title picture.
Dedduanglek vs. Nakrob
The all-Thai rematch between Dedduanglek TDed99 and Nakrob Fairtex could see one of these elite strikers make inroads in the flyweight Muay Thai division.
Dedduanglek is 5-1 in ONE to date, with the only loss being a third-round stoppage at the hands of his upcoming opponent. Despite that setback, the TDed99 representative now sits at #4 in the divisional rankings following his second win over Japanese star Taiki Naito.
For his part, Nakrob is 8-1 in ONE and boasts four knockout wins among that impressive slate. After finishing his compatriot last November, he’ll feel confident that he can blast his way into the top five with another dominant showing.
Dmitrii Kovtun vs. Ferrari
Ferrari Fairtex is looking to keep his four-fight winning streak alive when he battles ONE newcomer Dmitrii “The Silent Assassin” Kovtun in a bantamweight Muay Thai clash.
The Fairtex Training Center athlete rebounded from a two-fight skid to win his last four outings and now hopes to build toward the division’s big guns by making it five.
However, Kovtun is a hard-hitting foe with nothing to lose.
The Russian signed on for his debut in the world’s largest martial arts organization with just two weeks to go, and he knows an upset of Ferrari would instantly elevate his profile – so expect him to come out swinging.
Rambolek vs. Craig Coakley
Another high-stakes clash will take place in the bantamweight Muay Thai division when Rambolek Chor Ajalaboon takes on Craig “Coco” Coakley.
Rambolek made history when he became the first ONE Friday Fights athlete to earn a six-figure deal with the organization’s global roster, and after a shaky stretch, the Thai striker justified the step up with a win over Soner Sen.
While he wants to keep his momentum building, Rambolek won’t have it easy against a motivated Coakley. The Irishman has left no stone unturned on the hunt for his first ONE win, and he believes he possesses the tools to stop his foe in Bangkok.
Aliff vs. Zakaria El Jamari
Aliff Sor Dechapan and Zakaria EI Jamari will duke it out in a 128-pound catchweight Muay Thai bout that should be fast and furious for as long as it lasts.
Aliff was 4-0 in ONE with three knockouts before dropping back-to-back decisions, and the Malaysian-Thai fighter wants to rekindle the hype by getting back in the winner’s column.
However, El Jamari is unbeaten in the professional boxing ranks alongside his impressive Muay Thai career, and he will meet fire with fire by trading hands with Aliff until someone backs down.
Yu Yau Pui vs. Amy Pirnie
Yu Yau Pui will get her toughest test yet in decorated Scottish star Amy Pirnie in the night’s opening contest.
The Hong Kong slugger has blitzed her way to a 6-0 ONE record with a relentless pressure style, but Pirnie’s years of experience against elite opposition means she will not be fazed by the aggression.
In fact, the Scot welcomes it, insisting that her counters will be the key to victory, so expect some heated exchanges when the unstoppable force meets an immovable object.
